Dream Cruises’ luxury ship, the Genting Dream was transformed over the weekend, into a catwalk for the first-ever Cheongsam Fashion Show at sea.
The ship became a platform for 21 selected crew members to showcase their beautiful designs from some of Hong Kong’s top bespoke cheongsam tailors.
The shows will be running throughout March and will take guests back in time to the Golden Shanghai era in the 1920s.
Cheongsam, also known as Qipao, is the iconic Chinese dress that showcases a woman’s feminine allure and beauty.
The cheongsam captures the essence of Chinese women which has endured through centuries. Inspired by Maggie Cheung’s 21 figure hugging cheongsams in the blockbuster classic and exquisite masterpiece – “In the Mood for Love” directed by Wong Kar Wai, Master Tailor Mr. Leung Ching Wah from “Linva Tailor” has designed and handcrafted these 21 cheongsams for the first-ever Cheongsam fashion show at sea.
Born in Guangzhou, Mr. Leung Ching Wah moved to Hong Kong in 1955 for an apprenticeship making Chinese clothing.
Until now, he has been devoting himself in this industry for more than 60 years.
Having set up Linva Tailor in 1965 in Central where the shop is still currently located, he has no plans to retire as he is proud of tailor-making the perfect cheongsam to fit customers of different body shapes.
The show was part of a celebration of International Women’s Day with Dream Cruises also hosting a number of workshops including professional hair and makeup classes, skin talks as well as dancing parties.
