Cheap fuel, fierce competition and a currency fluctuations may send prices even lower.

Eric Tan, the General Manager from Cruise1st in Singapore said it is a great time to fly in Asia with the abundance of budget airlines.

“The lower airline fares are due to the emergence of more and more budget airlines so it’s a great time to fly within Asia. While destinations in Southeast Asia are extremely popular, more and more Singaporeans are now looking to cruise in places like Hong Kong, Taiwan and China,” said Mr Tan.

“There are lots of new ships coming into Asia, especially China. And Southeast Asians are now taking an interest in some of the new and big ships like Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas in Shanghai and Ovation of the Seas in Tianjin. The want to see the new ships, as well as cruise to destinations like Korea and Japan.

“Currently, the budget airlines offer lots of promotions which make the prices extremely competitive. The prices for flights to Europe and America are also decreasing but not as substantial as the fall in prices in Asia.”

While Mr Tan said that Asia is still the most popular destination, he said there are also great deals you can find if you’re looking at cruising in Europe and America.

“While there has been a significant price drop in Asia comparative to the rest of the world, there are still airline bargains that you can find if you want to cruise in the Mediterranean or America.

“Airlines like Singapore Airlines have special limited time deals so make sure you look out for those when you’re thinking of booking a holiday.”

Jane Chang from Chan Brothers in Singapore said, “Hong Kong is an ideal destination and preferred option for Singaporeans for fly-cruise holidays due to familiarity, proximity, availability of flight options including low cost carriers and cruise options, and opportunity of extension for more shopping,” she said.
