Rebecca Rachel Wong gets a sneak preview of Dream Cruises’ latest themed cruise from Singapore.

Dream Cruises has always been known for its wild and wacky themed sailings. Last year saw it hosting Cosfest Sea on Genting Dream − Asia’s largest Cosplay event at Sea where guests could dress up as characters from anime, video games and movies.

More recently, there was Bierfest at sea on Explorer Dream, with a Bavarian-style carnival and German cuisine to commemorate Oktoberfest.

To coincide with Singapore’s school holidays, Genting Dream is hosting the first-ever Justice League at Sea. A collaboration with Warner Brothers, the themed cruise brings to life iconic Justice League super heroes (and a couple of super villains as well).

We boarded the ship on a Friday for a special afternoon preview of the cruise. As soon as we stepped on board, the excitement was palpable.

It’s clear that the voyage is designed to be fun-filled and family friendly. The ship has been entirely transformed to showcase Justice League and its cartoon characters, thus fully immersing guests in the DC universe. Once you step into the main lobby, you’re welcomed with eye-popping Justice League decorations.

We were first ushered into the Zodiac Theatre for its “Verry Christmas” production show, which guests can enjoy onboard Justice League at Sea sailings. The 40-minute show was undeniably impressive, with high production values and a talented cast. We were particularly wowed by the high-tech 3D backdrop on stage, which transformed to depict a wintry fairy-tale kingdom and other magical elements. We couldn’t keep our eyes off the cast as well − the dancing and acrobatic feats wowed the crowd and far exceeded expectations.

After the show, we got the chance to preview the ship’s exclusive Justice League-themed cabins. The rooms are a haven for kids and comic book fans, with 20 of such balcony staterooms available per sailing.

Each themed cabin comes decked in unique designs that take inspiration from Justice League superheroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash and Supergirl. The bedsheets, pillowcases and wall posters are splashed in these eye-catching designs.

Even the bathrooms are superhero-themed, with cartoon stickers on the shower screens and mirrors. Our favourite room was the Batman and Joker-themed one, with hilarious images depicting Batman’s love-hate relationship with his arch nemesis.

Rooms also come with a complimentary breakfast that’s packaged in adorable bento sets designed with Superman and Batman logos. Other freebies for guests are superhero plushies, a pair of mugs, bedroom slippers, a fleece blanket and a toiletry set. The themed-staterooms are chargeable at a top up of SG $250.

Also curated specially for the cruise are games for guests to participate in. The eight game zones are divided based on Justice League characters − namely Batman, Catwoman, The Joker and Harley Quinn, Superman and Supergirl, Aquaman and Mera, Wonderwomen and Katana.

We got a chance to try the games at the various zones, which include throwing darts, a mini golf challenge (harder than it looks!), an obstacle course and hoop throwing. Cruisers who participate in each game challenge can collect stamps at the stations, and redeem an exclusive prize.

On sailings, the cruise holds a kids’ costume party too, where the little ones can have a blast dressed up as their favourite superheroes. There’s also complimentary Justice League art & crafts activities such as face painting, beads making and colouring.

If you’re Christmas gift-hunting, consider stopping by the merchandise store for Justice League memorabilia. You’ll find everything from key chains to headrests, luggage tags, plush backpacks and towels.

Hungry guests can also head over to the Justice League-themed café, where food and beverages come served with Justice League adornings. The cafe wasn’t opened for our preview, but we did enjoy a high-tea at the Dream Dining room, where we filled our tummies with Justice League mocktails, mini-burgers, cocktail shrimp and dessert tarts. If the food’s any indication of what’s in store for the actual cruise, we say you’re in for a feast!

The afternoon ended with a meet-and-greet session with Justice League mascots. Cruisers will also have the opportunity to participate in meet-and-greet sessions with the mascots.

Justice League at Sea will be available across a series of 2-night, 3-night and 5-night sailings to Bintan, Phuket, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Langkawi. Cruises start from SG $453 per person, with sailing dates from 20 November to 29 December 2019.
