Whether you’re a trekkie or a rock music fan, there’s a specialty cruise for you. Here are some of the strangest on offer:

Spend a weekend with the Backstreet Boys
For all those diehard BSB fans, yes, the famous five reunited for a special cruise around the Mediterranean just last week. A.J, Howie D, Nick, Kevin and Brian were onboard Royal Caribbean’s Expedia. The boys were onboard, hosting activities and even performing for diehard fans. And of course, they get the chance to meet and mingle with the BSB. The cruise sailed from Italy and sailed to France and Spain. Apparently, the boys hold a cruise every year so look out for when the next one will be!

Pororo the Penguin on Princess Cruises
Family and kids can go onboard the Diamond Princess for a CTC Travel exclusive – for the first time, Pororo the Little Penguin and his friends will go on their first journey at sea. There will be an exclusive live musical, a complimentary photo-taking session for 200 passengers as well as a welcome gift for the first 200 children.

Psychics and ghost hunters
Step onboard the Carnival Legend for some of the best psychics and mediums. The Psychics Unleashed 4 cruise sail in October 19 from Sydney. But if you want to scare yourself silly, there is also a Ghost Hunter’s Cruise which will be on the Norwegian Pearl from September 18-25. The cruise departs Seattle and visits Alaska.

The Walking Dead cruise
For lovers of the hit US TV show The Walking Dead, earlier this year, Norwegian Cruise Lines held a special trip called the Walker Stalker cruise. The four-day trip featured Q&A sessions with a number of the show’s stars including Norman Reedus who plays Daryl and Danai Gurira, more better known as the sword-wielding Michonne. Guests onboard also were made up to turn into bloodthirsty monsters. Organisers are anticipating more Walking Dead cruises as it was extremely popular.

Try your hand at poker
Several cruise lines hold poker tournaments at sea including Norwegian Cruise Lines. In 2016, the 2016 Poke Challenge will be onboard the Norwegian Epic. The cruise departs Port Canaveral in Florida and will sail around the Caribbean for a week. There will be a total of four tournaments taking place onboard.

Sail with a celebrity cehf
A number of river cruise lines hold special food themed cruises. APT works in collaboration with Australia-born Vietnamese chef Luke Nguyen to create specialty food cruises. Luke will take cruise passengers out to the local markets to source produce he will cook onboard the ship. Aqua Expeditions who sail the Mekong and Amazon Rivers have hired David Thompson, who runs one of Asia’s best restaurants, Nahm has teamed up with the line to create a menu for the Aqua Mekong.
